Shin Kicking Championships

Yes, you read that correctly. Believe it or not, the Shin Kicking Contest has been going on for nearly 400 years!  The original Cotswold Olimpicks occured in 1612 but the event still draws a big crowd every year.  Last weekend the thousands who were in attendance in Cotswold, England saw events like tug of war, climbing the “unclimbable” ladder and of course, shin kicking.

In case you have never seen a shin kicking contest (which  is probably the case), here is a video of exactly what the event looks like. Contestants wear traditional smocks so they can hold each others shoulders easier, then kick each other in the shins until someone falls down. The only protection they are allowed to use is hay which can be stuffed into their pants. No shin guards, steel toe boots, or performance enhancers of that nature can be used.

James Bamber vs. Stupid Steve (seems like an appropriate name for such a contest)
