Do you smell that in the air? It’s fall baseball, October baseball, playoff baseball, whatever you want to call it it is back. It is a smell that was missing for me last year for the first time in 13 years. Anyway, I’m not going to get emotional, it’s playoff time and the Yankees have home-field advantage throughout.

I still do not understand why the division series is a best of five. Only eight teams make the playoffs out of 30, so why not extend the first round to a best of seven. Teams are already playing 162 games, why not a measely two more. Keep it fair I say. Anyway here are my picks for the first round:

Yankees 3 – Twins 0 — Get out your broomsticks, Yankees in a sweep over the Twins

Angels 3 – Red Sox 2 — Boston shows some some fight but lose to a better Angels team

Phillies 3 – Rockies 1 — Phillies beat up Rockies despite shaky bullpen

Dodgers 3 – Cardinals 2 — In the best series of Round 1, Torre over LaRussa by the slimmest of margins
