Somewhere in the Swamps of Jersey

“I was raised out of steel here in the swamps of Jersey,” and now I’m hosting a Super Bowl. That is what the new Meadowlands Stadium is saying after winning the bid to host Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.  That is correct, the NFL’s crown jewel, the Super Bowl, is moving to a cold weather stadium for the first time in the Super Bowl era.

Although written about the old football stadium at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, those beginning lyrics, written by ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen, also pertain to the new $1.6 billion home of the Giants and Jets.

The NY/NJ bid had the tag line “Make some history,” and that is exactly what they did when they won the 4th secret ballot to earn the right to host the big game.  The Giants/Jets new stadium will be the first open-air, cold-weather venue to host a Super Bowl.
