The Pan Man, Freddy “Sez” dead at 85

When the Yankees play the Rangers on Monday, a familiar sound will be absent at Yankee Stadium. That sound is the banging of a frying pan by Freddy “Sez”, who died of a heart attack on Sunday at the age of 85.

Freddy has attended Yankee games for the past 22 seasons with a frying pan and a metal spoon, walking around the stadium and having fans bang on the pan. If you have ever been to Yankee Stadium, odds are you’ve seen or heard Freddy’s famous pan.

This year the Bronx Bombers have experienced the passing of several important figures from the Yanks’ family. George Steinbrenner was a tremendous owner and Bob Sheppard was the voice of the Yankees for many many years. Now the Yanks lose one of their biggest fans and a sound that had been ever present at the stadium for over two decades.
